Our 'annual' hunt to find & record the Hill's smallest inhabitants with Rupert & Dawn from Wessex Ecological Consultancy, with a chance to see and learn more about the wide range of invertebrates that can be found on the Hill.
A bright, but breezy day saw lots of children and adults using our nets and bug pots to see what they could find for Rupert & Dawn to indentify - we recorded what was found on a flip chart.
2025 has been a good year for ladybirds and we found 4 different types. There were also crickets, grasshoppers, moths and butterflies. We also looked at the range of oak galls found on the Hill. See the final photo for the full list.
There was also an opportunity for solar observing with the Bristol Astronomical Society.
Thank you to Lamplighter Arts CIC for funding this event as one of the activities leading up to the Church Road Lantern Parade which will be happening on Saturday December 6th 2025 - "It's Going To Be Wild".
This was the Saturday of the Bristol Balloon Fiesta, but although there had been a mass ascent in the morning, the afternoon was too breezy, so unfortunately we didn't see any balloons after the event. There was still a large crowd though who stayed on to enjoy a picnic in the evening sunshine.
