The counts are now in. Yesterday, Friday 7th February, a team of John Atkinson, Neighbourhood Working Co-ordinator from Bristol City Council plus volunteers from Friends of Troopers Hill picked up all the dog faeces they could find on Troopers Hill, the Field and the woodland linking to Lamb Hill.

Quote from John, "Troopers Hill Field was disgusting". The count there was 30.

The total score was 103 plus 5 full bags of faeces. This was really alarming because with all the wet weather we expected a very low count. This had to be recent fouling.

The area was walked again at 4pm and 5 new piles were found and spray painted green.

Today, Saturday 8th February, during another visit at 8am, pink paint was used to spray 43 new piles.

Volunteers will be out there at 1pm to check again.

If anyone else would like to help count just call 0117 947 5037 - you don't have to pick up, just count. We have timed visits during this weekend and next week to work out when the worst offending is happening so the police, dog wardens and enforcement officers can time their visits well.

Here's the poster we have put on all the entrances to explain what is happening.

4 were ripped off between our 4pm visit and our 8am visit and will be replaced.

This campaign is happening because despite two visits by enforcement teams in 2013 dog fouling has continued to increase. Dog walkers and other visitors have raised this as a problem. If you have a good, effective idea for stop the problem do get in touch, our email address is friends@troopers-hill.org.uk.

Some good feedback yesterday "I know I occasionally miss my dog fouling so to quiet my conscience I always pick up some other dogs' poo on every walk" - gold star to this dog walker and all the others who do the same.

We were also told about some dog owners who park their cars in Malvern Rd and then sit in their cars while letting their dogs run loose into the Field. If you have any knowledge of this please let John Atkinson know details of the times this is happening plus, if you have them, the car registrations. His contact details are on the poster above.
