In a lot of respects this photo of the central part of the hill shows how little things have changed since the 1950s. The gorse wasn't present and nor were the trees below and to the left of the chimney. The area of bare soil is remarkably similar.
This was one of the first photographs Mr Alvis took with his new camera in about 1951.
