Prices start at £100

I'm not sure if you get a plaque or the tree is anonymous and only you know about it!

As someone with a significant event coming up next year I might look into it.

Oh! It's £400 if ou want a specific tree in a specific place. That's a tad expensive if you ask me.

Jules.... share the joke?

Re: Bristol Council Plant a Tree scheme

Given previous(2006/7), last winter's (2007/8), and this (2008/9), projected works on the hill, objective 7.2.2.9. (THMP) it seems ironic to advertise tree planting. Just my warped sense of humour!

Ah but those are Holm oaks, who have the disadvantage of being politically incorrect and non-autochthonous. BCC will be providing punters with £400 to spare with a flowering cherry in an on-street situation. (Are flowering cherries native species?!)

Shame we can't dig up the holm oaks, grow them on and sell them back to the council for £400 We'd soon be in a financial position to declare UDI .. the Peoples Republic of Troopers Hill.

Oooh! Had to look that one up!
Yes I think they are, but not sure to where, Japan? Where did Chekhov live? He had an orchard full...

Holm Oaks are mediterranean in origin and prefer a neutral or limey soil, (do well on the Cotswold limestone escarpment), so may be indicative of the degeneration (of the acid grassland) on the hill.

Re: Bristol Council Plant a Tree scheme

Mmm ... my Spanish friend taught me "autochthonous" and "holm oak", both in English. He had a woodland full of them. And a hound called Encina, which is holm oak in Spanish. Shame we can't repatriate ours to him.

Everything moves on, it's an interesting thought we might be striving to stem the flow of a natural progression. But hey, it's fun.

We are the Q10...
Holm Oaks are the free radicals?

I always wanted to be a free radical. But I'm a married socialist.
