Supporting Local businesses

We have have a thread before about how lucky we are to have a good range of local businesses so I thought I would add a bit:

Farrows (the award winning fish and chip shop in Kingsway Precinct) are doing their bit for world fish stocks and are selling hoki at the same price as haddock. This is a white fish that unlike haddock and cod is not under threat from overfishing and tastes very nice.

Jones the baker on Summerhill Rd - you may well be able to taste their hot cross buns if you come to tomorrow's Good Friday service on Troopers Hill - certainly the churches were going to make enquiries about buying their buns.

Beeses Tea Gardens - pretty local to those of us near Crews Hole but a bit more of a trek for those of you living high above - they will be open again over this Easter - yippee! - Rob and I will be taking a stroll along the river and summoning the ferry to take us across for a refreshing pint and nourishment. See www.beeses.co.uk for more info. They also have a nature reserve, Eastwood Farm, right next door with heronry, water meadows and woods.

Gingells the Butchers on Nags Head Hill - I know where I'm heading for my bacon - this is bacon that does NOT shrink when you cook, nor exude white liquid - it just wonderful solid bacon that tastes like bacon should. Excellent as a sandwich or with the traditional British breakfast or sliced into strips and fried with mushroom to go over your tagliattelli with a yoghurt and mustard sauce.

And no - they didn't pay me!

All the best,

Susan

Express Glazing, 82-84 Clouds Hill Rd (near the Maid Marion). I have used Express a couple of times for little bits of glass, for picture frames etc. The other week they provided a replacement round mirror and oval plain glass for a picture frame for £5 all-in. They had it ready in an hour or so too.

We too have had good service from Express Glazing, both at home and at the shop. They are reasonably priced and very prompt.
