Happy memories on Troopers

I have just come across your website and was very interested.(I was looking up Gingells butchers that I visit once a week) Although I don't live in that area my Mum lives halfway up the Kingsway and used to live in fir tree lane as a child. Concequently I have fond childhood memories of playing on troopers hill, catching slow worms and newts and daring each other to go into the tower. May I congratulate you on an interesting and very friendly website

Thanks, Linda. Rob works very hard at maintaining the website and it is great to have his efforts appreciated.

Do come back and enjoy the slow worms, they are still there.

How nice that you found us by looking for Gingells. We did do a thread about many of the excellent businesses nearby. Gingells is a great butcher.

All the best,

Susan

Are there any Gingells still running the butchers ? I recall that Rex died shortly after I left Nags Head Hill a good 23 years ago.

Well there is certainly a gentleman called Rex running it today. He looks as if he might be in his 40's. I will find a polite way of asking.

All the best,

He must be Rex junior then ! Rex senior would be in his 80s if he were still alive today. I would be fascinated to find out.
