New Fence Design

As part of the designs for the new entrances the gates and sections of fence will be replaced - in fact the need to replace the current fence is the main reason for having the design done.

So the big question is what type of fence should we have? The current fence was installed in 1991, so lasted about 15 years. It would be good to have something with a longer life. Obviously whatever we go for now will set the style for other sections of fence that will need replacing in the future.

One suggestion is an estate type fence such as shown on this website - though not necessarily from that manufacturer, I am only using their website as an illustration of the type. It could be painted, black or green, or left unpainted to give a rust colour.

We will be dicussing the design at our next meeting on 15th November so any thoughts posted here or brought to the meeting would be welcomed.

Re: New Fence Design

If anyone would like to see this style of fence in real life visit Callington Road LNR (the other side of the hospital from Tesco, toward the Wells Road).
Worth a visit anyway!

Re: New Fence Design

Looks expensive and hard to mend. I like what we have already as I think the rustic look is more appropriate for us. I guess the expense would be amortised though, if it lasted for 50 years.

Well, it should hopefully 'see' me out!
But then... a bamboo one may do that!

Re: New Fence Design

We had a good discussion about the fence at our meeting last night but didn't come to any real conclusion as to whether timber or metal estate fencing as described above would be best.
Wooden fencing looks more rural, metal fencing lasts longer and wouldn't show up as much.

We agreed to have another meeting to discuss it on the site after the Work Party on 1st December - meet at Greendown at about 12.15pm.

In the meantime if anyone would like to look at the plans please email me or phone me on 0117 947 5037.

Re: New Fence Design

There is a photo of the fence at Callington Road Nature Reserve here and this is one of the gates.
The reserve is alongside the ring road (Callington Road) on the right hand side as you head from the A4 at Brislington towards the A37 at Knowle - just past Tescos. You can park at Tescos and walk along to it. I was expecting to be able to point you to some information about the reserve on Bristol Parks' website but they don't mention it at all.

It does, however, have an excellent, albeit part-time, 'Parkie'!
