Chris,

Thanks for posting this. I am sure we are all pleased that something is being done about these steps and it's good that you can use the forum to keep us up to date. I'll pass on the information to others who aren't able to access the site.

Kit.

Hi Folks - just to report there was a cement mixer at the top of the steps (Firtree Lane end) this morning, looks like some remedial work is under way.

Re: Closure of Footpath between Troopers Hill and Cassey Bottom Lane

We have received this update from Chris:

As you may be aware the boundary walls adjacent to the troopers Hill footpath are owned and maintained by various separate parties. Bristol City Council have undertaken the stabilisation works to their area of responsibility, although we are responsible for the complete footpath and steps. We are now waiting on the owners of No. 42 Cassey Bottom Lane to do their bit of retaining wall rebuilding. They have now committed to undertake this work within the next month. Once they are finished BCC Contractors will return to resurface the steps and complete the footpath works. Unfortunately the footpath will be closed for at least another five to six weeks.

Re: Closure of Footpath between Troopers Hill and Cassey Bottom Lane: Six Weeks Later

This morning the fencing at the top of the steps was open so I ventured half way down out of pure curiosity.
Last week I spoke to the wall contractors who said they would be finished by Friday - the wall is now in pretty good shape as far as it goes.
Half way down (or up) there is now a (grass) bank where the wall (or was it fence?) used to be.
The steps themselves are still in need of work, they are muddy and lacking in definition especially approaching the top. I did not feel safe to go all the way down as I wasn't sure of getting past the footpath closed sign at the bottom end! I look forward to the steps being re-opened as I would normally use them often.

Footpath between Troopers Hill and Fir Tree Lane

Now open. Used it for the first time this morning. Nice blacktop surface and even risers to steps.

Re: Closure of Footpath between Troopers Hill and Cassey Bottom Lane

We received this message from Chris Dooley at Bristol City Council today:
"The stepped footway from Troopers Hill to Fir Tree Lane/Cassey Bottom Lane has finally reopened. Apologies for the length of time this has taken, but unfortunately this was due to matters outside my control."

I'd like to thank Chris for taking the time to keep us up to date.
