Here is the nomination I sent in: Troopers Hill Chimney in St George, Bristol, above Crews Hole, because it's historic, a remnant of copper smelting in the 18th Century linking it to Bristol's brassmaking industry, it's a landmark visible from miles around, it's on top of a brilliant Local Nature Reserve, see www.troopers-hill.org.uk, it leans only slightly less that the Tower of Pisa, probably thanks to the fireclay mine below and it has a certain phallic charm ;-) The shortlist should be published tomorrow so let's see if the chimney is on it to vote for. We came second - with 19% of the vote. Thanks to everyone who voted. Quote from www.bbc.co.uk/bristol: Banksy's Mild Mild West mural on Stoke's Croft has won the Alternative Landmark of Bristol vote. The mysterious artist's work, depicting comic policemen and a bear, polled 47% - more than double its nearest rival, Troopers Hill. The most-nominated location, Pur Down's radio mast, came in joint third with the coloured houses in Totterdown with 11%. In fifth place is Dower House, the mysterious yellow building off the M32, which picked up 8%. The last two were the RAC's Bradley Stoke tower and the cars at Portbury Dock which picked up 2.5% and 1.5% respectively. |
